FORTY HALL

ENFIELD

This was a major project for the London Borough of Enfield, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Conservation repairs to the main building and the restoration of rooms formerly used as office space allowed 30% more of the building to be made available to visitors.

A strong case for removing the Victorian stair had to be made to English Heritage but the benefit of the return of the original stair configuration and circulation patterns and the introduction of a lift enabled full wheelchair access to be given to all four floors.

A new glass covering to an internal courtyard also created an additional public space and linked to ancillary accommodation.
