ST JOHN AT HACKNEY

HACKNEY

St John at Hackney Church has reopened after a two year, multi-million pound restoration - the result of a unique collaboration between Thomas Ford and Partners and internationally renowned designer John Pawson. The scheme reimagines the iconic parish church as a thriving place of worship that is both a centre for the arts and world-class events venue (the Grade II* listed building is a popular performance venue for acts like Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Florence & the Machine). Later additions, dating mainly from the 1950’s, have been carefully stripped away to reveal the original simplicity of the Nave. In contrast, we have replaced a jumble of rooms and mezzanines in the south wing with four floors of tightly-packed new accommodation, complete with a new staircase and lift. The project also features a unique Es Devlin art installation, and was generously supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
