BODIAM CASTLE

BODIAM

Constructed in 1385, Bodiam is every child’s idea of the perfect castle.

The practice has worked with the National Trust for over 15 years undertaking a series of conservation projects to maintain this iconic ruin. These have included the conservation of the Chapel, Lord’s Great Hall southern wall, Well Tower and associated structure and eastern walls as well as repairs to the main gatehouse.

Access is always a particular challenge at Bodiam as the Castle is a Scheduled Monuments and all scaffolding has to be suspended so that it does not touch the walls or moat.

We are now preparing for the conservation of the Postern Gate and are working with the National Trust and Historic England to improve public access to the western tower.
