ST GEORGE'S CHURCH

CATFORD

This new building replaces an earlier Victorian church which had become so badly affected by settlement that it was necessary for it to be demolished. Our design for the new building responded to the Parish’s desire for a modern building, clearly recognisable as a church, but which was also simple and economical to build. A central feature of the design was the incorporation of the superb Henry Holiday west windows. The Pre-Raphaelite windows were saved from the old church, cleaned and conserved by Benyon Stained Glass and reset in the new east wall.

The design of the interior combines the best of traditional and modern design to create a welcoming, serene and uplifting space for worship, but one which can also be used for secular events. We also designed the internal furnishings and fittings - a rare opportunity to realise a complete design concept, and to provide the church with something uniquely its own.
