EMERY WALKER HOUSE

ARTS & CRAFTS HAMMERSMITH

7 Hammersmith Terrace is one of those wonderful houses that feel as if the owner has just slipped out for five minutes.

The challenge for the design and curatorial team was to empty it, carry out essential repairs to protect the collection of Morris papers and textiles, Webb furniture and Pre-Raphaelite artwork and then return the contents without it being apparent to visitors.

The project also included conservation of the original wallpapers by Allyson McDermott, improvement to volunteers’ facilities and was accompanied by work at Kelmscott House for the partnering organisation the William Morris Society.
