GREAT DIXTER

NORTHIAM

A multi-faceted project which included a wide range of repairs, alterations and improvements throughout the estate, with a particular emphasis on improving facilities for visitors and students. In addition to the works centred around the Grade I listed house and internationally famous gardens, we also restored and converted the semi-derelict buildings of Dixter Farm to provide essential student accommodation, education space and staff offices. The Grade I Listed Great Barn has been restored and is now accessible to the public for the first time.

In line with the ethos of Great Dixter, sustainability was at the top of the agenda with a ground source heat pump, biomass boiler (shoehorned into one of the Listed Oasts) and photovoltaic cells all being incorporated. Rainwater harvesting is also utilised.
