BECKENHAM PLACE PARK

LEWISHAM

The practice has been involved with the Beckenham Place Park Estate for many years. The Grade II Stable Block adjacent to the main house had been on the Heritage at Risk List following a catastrophic fire in 2011. Following funding from the NLHF, we were commissioned to undertake proposals to reconstruct the building with a new community-based use. The scheme design was developed following extensive community and amenity society consultations to ensure that the proposals reflected a consensus and would be well supported.

The reconstruction involved adapting the layout to make better use of its orientation and increase opportunities within the building for commercial and educational use. The design reflected our experience from similar projects in both understanding its historic context and adapting it for modern use, including incorporating extensive M&E services. The park was re-landscaped by BDP including a new lake for wild swimming.
